Sutliff Tobacco Company, founded in 1849 by H.W. Sutliff in San Francisco, started as a retail shop for cigars and pipe tobaccos. In the 1930s, they began producing "Mixture 79," and in 1953, they moved to Richmond, Virginia, a tobacco industry hub.
