Luigi Viprati started making pipes back in 1972 during his time in the military. Luigis love with briar started when he picked up a block of briar and carved a pipe for fun. Over the years he honed his skills not only shaping the briar, but studying the grain and working out the shapes based on the cut. He soon set about learning the skills to cut the bowls and make mouthpieces. After 12 years of experimentation Luigi opened his own workshop and his reputation quickly grew, his take on classic shapes and more artistic designs saw collectors the world over lusting for his pipes.
