Sutliff Tobacco Company, founded in 1849 by H.W. Sutliff in San Francisco, started as a retail shop for cigars and pipe tobaccos. In the 1930s, they began producing "Mixture 79," and in 1953, they moved to Richmond, Virginia, a tobacco industry hub. The company expanded through acquisitions and introduced new products, including a successful line of premium tinned tobaccos. In 2013, Mac Baren Tobacco Company acquired Sutliff's Pipe Tobacco Division, strengthening both companies and enabling Sutliff to distribute Mac Baren products in the Western Hemisphere.
