Alfred Dunhill opened his first tobacco shop on London’s Duke Street in 1907. In the early days Alfred used to import his tobacco pipes but in 1912 he introduced the ‘White Spot Dot’. Alfred deemed this to be the correct position for hand cut mouthpieces and from that day the recognisable and esteemed White Spot Tobacco Pipe was born. The White Spot logo has been untouched for over 100 years with the current range of tobacco pipes still featuring Alfred vision for superior pipes.
During World War II Dunhill looked to promote his product on an international scale. When an order was placed by an officer serving in Northern France, Alfred sent additional pipes with notes asking for them to be distributed among fellow officers and only paid for on their return. Dunhill pipes were sold to British officers plus Americans, French, Belgians and Canadians and by the end of the war white spot was known all over the world.
Dunhill is now an internationally registered trademark and the ultimate accolade of the highest workmanship and quality. Maintaining both the same manufacturing methods and strict quality criteria laid down by Alfred Dunhill himself which has resulted in the creation of some of the best pipes and excellent smoker's accessories on the market today.
