The Wise Man Maduro – Foundation Cigar Company
The Wise Man is far more than just a cigar – it is an experience steeped in history, culture, and tradition. This exceptional line is the first collaboration between Nicholas Melillo of Foundation Cigar Company and Don Pepin Garcia of My Father Cigars, and notably, the first Foundation release to be crafted at the world-renowned My Father factory in Nicaragua. With such a pedigree, The Wise Man stands as a cigar of true distinction.
The Legacy Behind the Name
The name The Wise Man pays tribute to Menelik I, the son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, and the first Emperor of Ethiopia’s Solomonic dynasty. This dynasty ruled for nearly 3,000 years, ending with Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974.
But what links Menelik to Nicaraguan tobacco? Historical records from Girolamo Benzoni’s History of The New World(1565) reveal that as early as 1541, Nicaraguan natives and enslaved Ethiopians were the only people smoking cigars in Nicaragua. These early Ethiopian smokers – descendants of Solomon and Menelik – became the first non-native people to enjoy Nicaraguan tobacco.
Smoking The Wise Man therefore connects you to over 3,000 years of wisdom and more than 450 years of Nicaraguan cigar heritage.
