The Wizard Cobbit Corn Cob Pipe from Missouri Meerschaum is the largest in our Cobbit Collection of churchwarden style pipes. It features a unique, deep bowl that will hold enough leaf for a long, relaxing, and thoughtful smoke befitting a wizard.

Like all pipes in the Cobbit Collection, the bowl has a dark stain added to the coating, a genuine, hardwood insert in the bottom, and an acrylic bit. The Wizard is a pipe designed to be smoked while sitting by the fire and contemplating the magic in your life!

Corn cobs have a slightly bad reputation, they are seen as the disposable pipe. A cheap alternative to briar and therefore inferior too, but thats not fair at all. The Missouri Meerschaum pipes are made by hand, using specifically bread corn. The porous husk allows for a dryer smoke, absorbing the moisture and like Clay & Meerschaum smokes very cool. Unlike Briar and other wooden pipes, a carbon cake is not required. The first few smokes have a sweet, nutty taste but after that the pipe holds no background flavours and always gives a pure taste to the tobacco. Many blenders (our self's included) use Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob pipes to sample blends, for the neutral taste.

    MM Cobbit Wizard Pipe

Posted by Ian Devereux on 5th Dec 2025

It's one thing to read the dimensions of this pipe, which state its size - it's another to get to hold it and appreciate its size. This is my first churchwarden style pipe (in over 40 years of pipe smoking). Just didn't "get around" to buying one before. I'm glad that I did. Aesthetically a very pleasing pipe. The bowl fills my hand, and the stem length means I can rest my hand on a table or chair arm. It will be a fine pipe for reading or just sitting. Not one to try and work around! The Wizard smokes as well as any other cob I've had - I like them a lot. I was surprised at how open the draw is. This meant that for me "sipping" is the best way to smoke this pipe. A 3/4 fill of G&H Black Cherry Cavendish smoked for just over an hour. Lighting and relighting will need some practice. The draw is open enough to pull down flame of the gas lighter I use, but care will be needed not to scorch the rim and upper chamber. All in all I think I'm going to enjoy this pipe a lot.
