Product Description
The Country Gentleman boasts a barrel bowl with a smooth black and natural look. This fairly large pipes houses a generous chamber, filled with a hardwood plug at the base. The straight black stem houses an optional 6mm (included), but can also be used without the filter. A very popular shape in the Missouri Meerschaum range.
Corn cobs have a slightly bad reputation, they are seen as the disposable pipe. A cheap alternative to briar and therefore inferior too, but thats not fair at all. The Missouri Meerschaum pipes are made by hand, using specifically bread corn. The porous husk allows for a dryer smoke, absorbing the moisture and like Clay & Meerschaum smokes very cool. Unlike Briar and other wooden pipes, a carbon cake is not required. The first few smokes have a sweet, nutty taste but after that the pipe holds no background flavours and always gives a pure taste to the tobacco. Many blenders (our self's included) use Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob pipes to sample blends, for the neutral taste.

Surprisingly Good!

I had always viewed cobs with a certain amount of snobbish disdain. They looked a little like toy pipes to me. I was pretty sure that they simply wouldn't perform, indeed, couldn't perform, like a good old solid briar.
This disgraceful attitude was born out of ignorance and, as of recently, I'm pleased to say, it has been blasted clean out of the sky for good.
I purchased a decent sized, rounded and smoothed cob at the Pipe Show.
Not only does it look good, it smokes great. At around the £8 I paid, it is terrific value and it now sits very comfortably with all the other smoking machines I own.
The smoke is clean, free and pure. The tobacco burns well and evenly.
It may not turn many heads down the High Street (actually, it might just, you know), but, my goodness, does it perform well. And, it feels fantastically comfortable in the hand, too. Contentment from a converted man.
