One of the biggest problems with the General MacArthur pipes is the size, a full bowl can often last over 5 hours for the slower smokers among us. What many do is fill half the bowl the Chalk or Sicilia filters, to reduce the chamber depth. To combat this problem Missouri Meerschaum released the 5 Star General MacArthur’s in 2014. These feature a shallower and more tapered bowl shape. These new offerings resemble the original pipe designed for and by the iconic American commander. Do not be be fooled, even though these 5 Star offerings have a smaller bowl, they still hold a lot of tobacco.
Smooth, varnished finish with a curved stem. A little harder wearing compared to the natural model.
Corn cobs have a slightly bad reputation, they are seen as the disposable pipe. A cheap alternative to briar and therefore inferior too, but thats not fair at all. The Missouri Meerschaum pipes are made by hand, using specifically bread corn. The porous husk allows for a dryer smoke, absorbing the moisture and like Clay & Meerschaum smokes very cool. Unlike Briar and other wooden pipes, a carbon cake is not required. The first few smokes have a sweet, nutty taste but after that the pipe holds no background flavours and always gives a pure taste to the tobacco. Many blenders (our self's included) use Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob pipes to sample blends, for the neutral taste.
