The Capitols have all of the character and full-bodied intensity for which the brand is famed and have been made using a careful selection of leaves drawn from the finest plantation in the Vuelta Abajo area of Pinar del Río, Cuba. They have also been rolled totally by hand, using long filler tobacco leaves, or “Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga” as they say in Havana.
Partagas Capitols are the latest addition to the new Linea Retro Series joining the Romeo y Julieta Club Kings which were released earlier in the year
Like the Club Kings, the Capitols are Mareva sized cigars (5 1/8” (129mm) x 42 ring gauge) and are presented in a 1970s retro tin with a pressure pop-up lid. The design and style of the tin was inspired by the pocket cigar cases that were much in vogue during that decade and includes retro branding which many today associate with the iconic sign that hangs outside the world famous factory in Havana. Each tin holds 5 cigars and can be presented directly for sale in their retro wooden box which is a throw-back to the 1970’s, with fold-down front lid.
Partagas cigars have been a firm favourite with those seeking a deep and rich smoke since the 1840’s. Don Jaime Partagás y Ravell moved to Havana from Catalan in 1835 and worked initially for a local businessman (Lloret de Mar). By 1845 Don Jamie opened the now iconic La Flor de Tabacas de Partagás in Havana and procured a large quantity of plantations in Vuelta Abajo. The connection with Vuelta Abajo, Cubas premium tobacco growing lands, the Partagas brand was able to offer only the finest tobaccos in their cigars.
Don Jamie experimented with various fermentation methods, many of which are still used today around the world. One other innovation Partagas brought to the cigar world, was the use of readers for rollers in the factories and this tradition continues to this day in Havana factories. Sadly Don Jamie was murdered on one of his plantation in 1868 and his son (José Partagás ) took over the business.
Partagas are renowned by connoisseurs who are looking for a powerful cigar with a rich and pronounced flavour. These cigars offer a classic Cuban taste which has changed very little in the 180+ years, with rich woods, nuts, spice, earth and leathery flavours. The Serie range was introduced in the 1980 and while the blend is a little stronger, it still offers what you would expect form this brand.
