Peterson Pipe of the Year 2019

Our 2021 Pipe of the Year marks the return of one of the most anticipated shapes in our company's history: the 4AB. Introduced in 1896, the 4AB is among the first and most recognizable System pipes. It's the large Dutch Billiard smoked by Basil Rathbone in 12 of his Sherlock Holmes films and beautifully represents Peterson history from the first days of the patents.

This year's Pipe of the Year is a recreation of the original 4AB and is the first System pipe in our POY line, featuring all of the signature design elements that comprise Charles Peterson's patented System pipe: moisture reservoir, military mount, graduated bore mouthpiece, tenon extension (also known as a chimney), and P-Lip bit. Moreover, this year's edition elevates its historical design with modern finishes like our signature Rusticated, Sandblasted, Terracotta, or the Heritage presentation seen here. Furthermore, each pipe is fitted with a sterling silver mount and a reverse-engineered AB-stem design to match the original.

For a return to the origins of the Peterson pipe, this design is an irresistible window into the 19th-century, and for us, it's especially satisfying to make pipes according to Charles Peterson's original vision.
