Chris is the pipe maker behind Oiseau Briars and has been making pipes for a few years now. He have always enjoyed working with wood and started carving his own pipes during the pandemic. It quickly turned into a passion for him. Chris began posting about his learning journey on social media and was approached by Chris Kelly of Eldritch Pipes. Chris Kelly was very generous and provided him with information on materials, gave feedback and taught Chris techniques. This guidance helped Chris to develop his skills more quickly than he would have on his own.

Chris lives in France and so he visited St. Claude, the home of French pipe making. It was there that he got chatting to Bruno Nuttens who kindly invited me to visit his workshop and learn from him. Bruno was himself trained by Pierre Morel and Tom Eltang. Chris then visited Bruno at his workshop and he came away not only having learned so much, but having made a great friend and mentor. Chris has undertaken regular visits to see Bruno ever since and he continues to learn from Bruno whilst developing a style of his own.

Chris aims for elegance in his work and does his best to let the briar decide on shaping. His pipes are therefore classic in style but produced each pipe so that it can evolve into a product with a unique twist. He strives for precision as much as for elegance and enjoy continuing to develop his skills as a pipe maker.
