Product Description

Many class this as the mellower and sweeter cousin of Full Virginia Flake/Plug and its easy to see why. The tobacco is made using high quality virginias and even has the same, slight herby/vegatal aroma found in FVF/FVP. This mellower version is made without the use of any toppings and is one of the cleanest Virginias produced in the UK.

Best smoked by rubbing into a ribbon and packing, can be folded but needs to be dried out a little first. Once lit you are greeted with divine sweetness and a gentle herby and nutty flavours. Depending on how you cut this plug a bowl can last for hours and burns cleanly to the bottom of the pipe, leaving a fine ash. With us not being able to get Capstan Blue Flake in the UK, this is the best alternative and is better to be honest.

  1. A no nonsense baccy. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Oct 2020

Please read the other review here, I totally agree with it. I'll have half a bowl last thing & finish it with my morning coffee.
It really is a slow smoke & certainly smokes to the bottom of the bowl. I would think it would be a great starter tobacco for a novice.
Frankly, after some 50years of enjoying pipe smoking, this does come out as 'must' for me. I'll stick with my usual brand but I can see this gradually taking over.

  2. Creamy mellowness 4 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Jul 2014

I bought a tin of this at the recent Pipe Show. I had my first smoke of it this morning. First impressions were the lovely grassy-sweet, acorny aroma in the tin and the golden brown flakes that were moist and rough cut. A very nice looking cut here.
The flake took a bit of persuasion by rubbing out to sit in the bowl. Lighting up, the smoke came through creamy, smooth and pleasantly mild, almost warm bread-like in its roundedness. A very mellow mouth-feel and tasty without being overbearing. There is no tang or bite here, just the smoothness of the Virginias with a distinctly warm, mild feeling in the coolness of the smoke. The smoke lasted a good while, though in future I will dry the flake out a little before lighting. It is clean and decidedly simple in taste, mild, fresh, not at all woody and the pipeful left me feeling content and satisfied. If you wish for depth and complexity, this blend may not suit your tastes. However, for a straightforward clean flavour that is mellow, smooth and undemanding, simple but satisfying, you will enjoy this. I did.
