Fidel first tasted these cigars after a bodyguard gave him one of his own, which had been grown and rolled by a friend. Castro fell in love with them and invited the farmer and roller to produce cigars for him and other members of Cuba’s Communist Party.

What gives Cohiba cigars their thick and creamy texture is the additional third stage of fermentation, carried out in wooden barrels. Only Cohiba cigars receive this unique third fermentation, helping the brand become a firm favourite with aficionados around the world.
