Product Description

THE CHINESE DRAGON

There is no definite date to the origins of this mythical animal, but its symbolism is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. The dragon can be described as composed from parts of nine animals:

The horns of a deer, the head of a camel, the eyes of the devil, the neck of a snake/serpent, the belly of a frog, the scales of a carp, the claws of an eagle, the paws of a tiger, and the ears of an ox/cow.

In ancient days the dragon was regarded as a most sacred animal and was used by Chinese emperors as an imperial symbol and the 5-clawed dragon was only to be used by the emperor and his family.

Unlike the portrayal in the West where the dragon is evil, the Chinese dragon is a beneficent and gracious creature. It also serves as a symbol of good fortune as legend tells that the dragon first appeared in the sky while an heir to the throne was born, and the country became blessed with peace and prosperity for many generations after.
