1. A true love affair

   St. Bruno Flake has firmly established itself in my repertoire over the nearly forty years that I've been a pipe smoker. I simply love its taste and aroma. It brings back so many memories of childhood when I would see blokes lighting up with St. B., and when I took up the pipe myself it seemed the natural choice. It was the first pipe tobacco I ever tried as a very young man. Down the years its unique taste, medium strength and great flake feel have appealed enormously and I suppose will do so until the day I stop smoking. Wonderful flavour, rich and fruity, sweet and aromatic. Whilst savouring so many new tobaccos lately and building up a cellar of them too, St. Bruno will continue to hold a very special place for me.

3. A sound consistent daily smoke

   As one of the more available OTC's in the UK, this is a great accessible smoke. Not quite as subtle or nuanced as Players Navy Cut Flake (another OTC that is much more soft and fruity), it is nevertheless a solid and consistent smoke.
   
   Packing a bigger nicotine punch than Players (Welcome if, like me, you are a former ciggy smoker)and coming quite dark, dense and moist, it will burn a lot longer than most flakes and I know some St.Bruno smokers who prefer to dry it out a little before loading up a bowl. I don't bother with this and find it smokes surprisingly cool and dry and I rather like the longevity the moisture gives it. Slightly perfumed it nevertheless retains a strong earthy uncomplicated flavour. It’s a good place to start if you are new to pipe tobacco and looking to move away from aromatics and towards something with a little more character.
   
   A great Virginia blend.
