We love a good dark, heat pressed flake and we love them even more when Latakia is on the menu. This offering from the prestigious Mac Baren HH range is sure to please all Latakia junkies. Comprised of sweet Virginia’s, Cypriot Latakia, spicy Orientals and a dash of Burley. As soon as you open the tin, the aroma of fills the air with the dark and stinky latakia with the Oriental pronounced only when you got your nose in there. Like the Old Dark Fired, which has been gracing our shelves here in the UK for a number of years, the Latakia Flake is cut into narrow and short flakes. Each flakes weighs about 3g, which allows the smoker to take a single flake and load the bowl.
Of course the important part is smoking and this is just divine stuff. From the word go, you are greeted with a punchy and rich Latakia flavour. The Virginias add a wonderful sweetness in the background, while the subtleties spices of the Orientals fill in the gaps. A well rounded and balanced blend, not really for those who are unsure or dislike Latakia, but for smokers like us at GQ Tobaccos this is exactly what the doctor ordered!

I am slowly becoming a latakia fan, that is one for the books,this mix is mild but has taste as well as latakia,it's not a latakia bomb but it is ther it smokes cool and no bite could be a all day smoke it's good enough, just a very good smoke,I like it that is for sure.

A Divine Baccy for the Thinking Man (Or Woman)

This has become my tobacco Nirvana, so I'm gutted but unsurprised that it has currently sold out. Despite being a favourite among favourites, it would seem almost disrespectful to smoke this amazing stuff on a daily basis unless you are fortunate enough to have enough time on your hands to really savour it.
The tin note is dark and oaky, like the darkest corner of the woodshed where you might hide your favourite bottle of single malt to keep it from the sticky fingers of house guests.
My preferred place to smoke it is outdoors, by the fire, reclining in a comfortable camp chair, a bottle of suitably dark porter in hand and preferably the company only of my own thoughts. The moment the match makes the first charring light you are greeted with the sweet darkness of black treacle from the hot pressed Virginias, but with the Latakia immediately opening the symphony as a powerful overture.
As the bowl progresses with a gentle burn the Latakia settles in a little more, allowing the Virginia and Burley to step up and take a more equal role in the flavour profile. The sweetness remains throughout, and feels as pleasing as running your finger around the bowl from Granny's home made treacle toffee on bonfire night.
All in all, a real thinking person's smoke, and one which deserves a special place of reverence in my hall of fame.
