We finally had access to this iconic tobacco here in the UK in early October 2013. This tobacco is a massive seller in America and around the world. Made up from strong Virginia tobaccos, with the addition of Burleys and Kentucky’s. The tobaccos are considered an English, based on its production method. The tobaccos are taken and hot pressed with the assistance of steam, this bleeds out the sweetness and helps to produce a rich, dark, earthy, leathery smoke, ideal for those who have a love for Kentucky and other powerful tobaccos. The use of no added flavours and the lack of Latakia will make a great tobacco for anyone who avoids these, but still love the darker and stronger side. For the best smoke you are better off folding and stuffing the flakes in to the pipe, as rubbing too fine will cause the smoke to be a little warm and lack flavour. A 4 star rating over on tobaccoreviews.com and its easy to see why!

Needs jarring for a couple of month but richly rewarding once you do, full of plum and raisin flavours perfectly paired with the dark burley, I can't believe there is no casings on this blend, reminiscent of Xmas pudding both on tin note and taste the dark flakes light well and smoke beautifly once dried out a tad...has shown me there's more to life than Latakia.
Have just bought a couple more tins to cellar and can't wait on the outcome.
Try it...you won't be disappointed.

I can imagine the good Lord frantically searching for his pipe and tin Old Dark Fired after all was done. This tobacco will sit you down and make you forget the problems of the day. I find it to be mellow, no where near strong. It blended so that you can taste and enjoy each tobacco.. take the plunge worth twice the cost

For me this is yet to be topped. Such an underrated tobacco. Dark, subtle, rich, earthy and with a hint of cigar and plums, no matter how many exotic tins of this, or that, I try, like a home, I always return to this tobacco as a daily smoke. And until I smoke anything better, I will continue to. Though surprisingly subtle in flavour, its terribly uncomplicated stuff and will deliver plume upon plume of the most gorgeous rich smelling smoke you can get out of a pipe. It took me a few tins of this before I settled on it, so I would recommend perseverance. Its a real grower.
