Product Description

The steamed, Black Kendal twists look dark, rich and above all strong. While this is mainly true compared to many other pipes tobaccos, it not when it comes to twist. What start off as the all so powerful Brown Twist, the Black twist on the other hand is pressed and steamed. This not only darkens the tobaccos, it also reduces the nicotine and removes some of the spicier side of the blend. We do have to say, even though this is lighter than Brown Twist, it is still a strong tobacco in the grand scheme of things. Thanks to the small addition of fire cured leaf, this tobacco has a complex array of flavours; Smoky, Spicy, Woody, Earthy, Leathery and all the while very smooth and cool to smoke.

"All our twist tobacco varieties are manufactured by the same spinning process using dark fired wrapper leaves. The filler is again, predominantly dark fired leaf with the addition of a small percentage of dark air cured Indian leaf. They are therefore strong tobaccos. Black Twist, because the cooking process removes some of the stronger tar and nicotine elements, provides a milder smoke than the brown twist." - Gawith Hoggarth

To prepare Twist tobaccos, take a shape knife and cut off small coins 1/8" thick. Then treat these small coins as any flake, but a word of warning these twist tobaccos hold the moisture very well and may require a little air drying before use. Twists ability to hold moisture saw this the primary way of keeping tobacco fresh during transatlantic voyages.

  1. you got to like it I do 5 Star Review

Black twist XXX This was a little disappointing it seems to have lost something in the years since I last smoked it, or it’s just me, it cut and rubbed well, packed well in to my good old falcon pipe, it lit first time and stayed lit, as I slowly disappeared in to a white Smokey fog, the smoke is a little harsher than the brown twist, however as I got to the last bowl of 5 I wish I had got a lot more, this was a real good smoke it takes second place in my top five. GQ got it spot on, not to moist ready to smoke twist and that makes all the difference.

  2. A puff from the past 5 Star Review

this baccy brings back so many memories for me as my grandad smoked these type of twists all the time. It was the smell of it I loved the most, pungent, robust and earthy. I still love to smoke this baccy but usually If I smoke it neat it will only be 3-4 bowls a week. However I usually blend it with 75g Samuel Gawith - FVF & BBF Offcuts to 25g Black Irish XXX. This results in an incredibly cool and flavourful smoke which you can enjoy as an all day smoke without getting a nicotine whiteout. this baccy is a bit llke Marmite you tent to either love it or loath it. I LOVE IT
